Community Health

Care that belongs to everyone: the inclusive association Aldeia Inclusiva in the north, wellbeing spaces like Naturalmente near Alte, and family-friendly retreats like Vida Pura. Health as something a community grows together.

Community health in Portugal

The Portuguese interior has the oldest population in the country and the thinnest health provision, and the two facts meet in villages where the nearest hospital is an hour away. Community health here is largely about what neighbours, associations and small institutions can hold between them.

Aldeia Inclusiva builds a rural community around inclusion in Monção. Neos Life is developing a village-scale project near Montemor-o-Novo. Vida Pura and Essência work with families and groups in the south-west, and Forests4health takes the forest-bathing side of it into workplaces.

The gap between what exists and what is needed is wide, and it is widening with the demographics. If you run something in this space, we would like to list it. Related focuses: mental health and nature connection and community resilience. Dated activities from these projects are listed in our events calendar.
