€7.2 million funding opens for shore power at Leixões port
Sustentável 2030, the programme backing Portugal's energy and climate transition, has opened a €7.2 million call for the Leixões port, with co-financing of up to 85%. The Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo port authority will use it to install onshore power supply at the north and south container terminals and at the passenger terminal on Dock 1 North. Moored ships will plug into the grid and shut down their combustion engines. The aim is to cut pollutant emissions and noise and prepare the port for wider electrification, in line with national decarbonisation goals.
