Águas do Ribatejo launches €6 million wastewater plant overhaul

Águas do Ribatejo has opened public tenders to rehabilitate three wastewater treatment plants in Benfica do Ribatejo, Muge and Glória do Ribatejo, at a combined cost of around six million euros. The company's director-general, Miguel Carrinho, said the decades-old facilities need major upgrades to meet current and upcoming treatment standards, including a new EU directive on urban wastewater. The projects have applied for funding under the Sustentável 2030 programme. Works are expected to take between roughly eighteen months and just over two years, benefiting around 140,000 people served by the intermunicipal company across seven municipalities in the Lezíria do Tejo region.
