Algarve water-saving label for hotels shortlisted for national tourism prize
The Save Water label, an Algarve scheme to improve water efficiency in tourism, is one of five finalists in the Blue Tourism category of the 2026 National Tourism Prize. Winners of the eighth edition will be announced on 23 November at a ceremony in Paço de Arcos. Developed by Turismo do Algarve with Turismo de Portugal and the energy agency ADENE, it launched in March 2024 amid regional water scarcity. Participating accommodation cut total water use by 13% in the first year, and use per overnight stay by 10%. Joining is voluntary and free, with each venue following its own action plan, and a campaign also urges visitors to use less water.
