ADENE – Agência para a Energia is Portugal's national energy agency. It is a private-law, non-profit association of public utility, headquartered in Rua Visconde de Seabra in Lisbon, and its mission is to carry out activities of public interest. It describes itself as the mobilising agent of the energy transition.
Its work is organised around seven themes: energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, the circular economy, consumers and energy poverty, and climate action. Each has its own information and tools section on the website.
Several services are aimed directly at citizens. Espaço Energia is a one-stop shop for household energy efficiency. Poupa Energia offers a savings simulator and practical tips. The Simulador de Mobilidade Elétrica helps people find the charging options that suit their consumption. The Observatório Nacional da Pobreza Energética publishes national data and indicators on energy poverty. CLASSE+ rates the energy performance of building envelope products.
Other projects work at system level. They include the Observatório da Energia, the Operador Logístico de Mudança de Comercializador (the switching platform for energy suppliers), the Mercado Voluntário de Carbono, the Rota da Energia, the Roteiro da Indústria and the Sistema de Gestão de Consumos Intensivos de Energia. ADENE also monitors the ECO.AP 2030 programme for public administration, which now has more than 900 participating bodies.
ADENE publishes a voluntary Sustainability Report, now in its second edition. It also runs the podcast Toda a Energia and the ADENE Talks series, and has produced a study on the blue economy and offshore wind and a book covering 25 years of change in Portugal's energy sector. It takes part in European innovation projects and recruits staff through its own careers portal.
Our Goal
ADENE promotes the energy transition with a focus on efficient use of resources, sustainability and climate action. It wants that transition to be accessible and fair for everyone.
Our Wishes
ADENE invites citizens, companies and public bodies to use its tools and to join the debate on the future of energy in Portugal, including through its podcast, talks and social channels.
