Alto Alentejo signs €15m contract to link Pisão dam to water plant

The Alto Alentejo Intermunicipal Community (CIMAA) has signed a contract worth over €15 million for hydraulic infrastructure linking the future Pisão Dam to the Póvoa e Meadas water treatment plant. The works involve about 25 kilometres of pipelines through Crato, Nisa and Castelo de Vide, aiming to reinforce public water supply to roughly 55,000 people ahead of the wider Crato multi-purpose water scheme. The contract now goes to the Court of Auditors. Officials from CIMAA, the Alentejo regional coordination commission and the government stressed the project's importance for irrigation and the regional economy. Separately, court hearings on legal challenges to the dam are scheduled for October in Castelo Branco.
