Lisbon assembly urges council to maintain garden lakes
Lisbon's Municipal Assembly approved recommendations, proposed by PEV and PAN, urging the city council to maintain the lakes in Lisbon's gardens as habitats for various animal species. The motions followed complaints about degraded water, silt build-up and inadequate conditions, notably at the Estufa Fria lake in Parque Eduardo VII, which underwent drainage and cleaning works. The assembly asked the council for regular maintenance, natural water treatment solutions, shelter structures for animals and better visitor information. Councillor Joana Baptista said the city already invests over €2.5 million yearly maintaining its 68 lakes and more than 160 fountains.
