APA waste-sorting roadshow makes final stop in Portimão

The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) brings its national campaign 'Vamos Lixar o Lixo' to Portimão from 24 to 26 July, the last of six cities visited by a travelling truck promoting waste separation. The initiative targets summer, when waste production peaks in Portugal: over 1.8 million tonnes of urban waste were generated between June and September 2025, with August alone exceeding 480,000 tonnes. Activities include a quiz, a sustainable consumption simulator, recycling art workshops and a participatory mural. APA president José Pimenta Machado stressed that, contrary to common belief, summer is regularly the period of highest waste output. The campaign runs until the end of 2026.
