The Azores Farmers' Federation has congratulated the island dairy companies honoured at the 17th Queijos de Portugal competition, organised by the national dairy industry association ANIL. Winners include Unileite (Nova Açores), Insulac (Valformoso), Cooperativa dos Lourais (Queijo Ilha), Pronicol (Milhafre dos Açores with local pepper) and Uniqueijo (12-month São Jorge PDO). The federation credits the daily work of milk producers for that quality. Its president, Jorge Rita, argues that the value of dairy products should show in the price paid to farmers, and calls for a balanced relationship between producers and industry.
