Cleanwatts to invest €150 million in energy communities by 2030
Pedro Antão Alves, CEO of Cleanwatts, discusses the growing role of energy communities in Portugal's energy transition. Following investment earlier this year from fund manager DWS, the company plans to invest €150 million by 2030 in solar generation and energy storage projects. Cleanwatts currently manages around 70 energy communities across Portugal, totalling roughly 30 MWp of solar capacity, with 10 MWp more expected by year-end. Alves highlights Portugal's advanced regulatory framework as a model for other countries and points to industry, retail and local institutions as key growth areas, alongside battery storage as a decisive technology for making renewable energy more competitive.
