Coimbra approves €1.36m riverbank renaturalisation project

Coimbra's city council has unanimously approved the execution project for rehabilitating and renaturalising the right bank of the Mondego river, between the mouth of the Ceira and Rebolim beach, at a cost of €1.36 million. The 'Margens com futuro' scheme covers 24 hectares over four years, including bank stabilisation, native species reintroduction, removal of invasive plants like acacias, and new cycling and pedestrian paths. Around 600 to 700 trees will be planted. The same meeting also approved ecological rehabilitation projects for the Espertina and Coselhas streams, worth €567,000 and €279,000 respectively.
