Environmental group demands answers over Tour of Portugal route through Gerês

The environmental association Zero has called for public clarification after learning that the 7th stage of the 87th Volta a Portugal cycling race, on 13 August, will cross the Peneda-Gerês National Park, including the Mata de Albergaria, a strictly protected biogenetic reserve. Zero questions what authorisations the ICNF granted, whether impact assessments were carried out on wildlife and habitats, and how the event's publicity caravan and support vehicles comply with traffic and wildfire-risk restrictions. It has asked the Portuguese Cycling Federation and ICNF to publish the exact route and authorisation documents, warning that protected areas cannot host events without respecting their legal limits.
