At a conference marking PT Green's first anniversary, Jorge Sousa, president of ERSE's Tariff Council, said Portugal has a highly competitive clean energy mix, with wholesale electricity prices among the cheapest in the EU. However, he noted that wholesale prices fell about 61% between 2022 and 2025, while household bills rose 9% and SME/services prices rose 14% in the same period, as network costs, regulation and taxation absorb the gains. He pointed to CIEG costs, which exceeded €1.2 billion in 2025, up 89% since 2020, as one distortion that needs reducing to allow cheap energy to reach consumers.
