PS-Madeira demands answers over electricity price rise

PS-Madeira met the electricity sector union to discuss EEM workers' conditions and the recent rise in electricity prices. The party has also formally asked the regional infrastructure secretary for details on EEM's real production and purchase costs, announced savings, and the tariff update approved by regulator ERSE. It wants monthly cost data per MWh compared with 2025 figures, clarity on fuel reserves bought before price rises, and documentation exchanged between the government, EEM and ERSE. PS-Madeira also called for investment in renewables, storage and grid modernisation to reduce reliance on international energy markets.
