Farm groups urge Brussels to curb Tunisian olive oil imports as producer prices slump
Four Portuguese farming organisations (CAP, CONFAGRI, AJAP and CNA) have set out their concerns over the olive and olive oil sector, where low producer prices and sharply rising input costs threaten the viability of many holdings, above all traditional groves. They call for private storage aid to take product off the market and for an end to inward processing arrangements for Tunisian oil. They also want the Commission to reassess the EU-Tunisia preferential agreement of 1998 and its tariff quota. Stricter traceability, tougher action against adulteration with seed or pomace oils, and clearer price formation are also demanded.
