Iberia-to-Europe hydrogen pipeline advances to detailed engineering

The BarMar pipeline, a roughly 400km undersea hydrogen link between Spain and France forming part of the H2Med corridor, has entered its detailed engineering phase, with REN representing Portugal in the consortium. The pipeline is expected to start operating in 2032, carrying 2 million tonnes of hydrogen annually and connecting Iberian production to French and German networks. Germany and France have pledged to work with Spain, Portugal and the European Commission over the coming year to define a technical and regulatory framework reducing project risks. The EU considers H2Med strategic for its Green Deal and RePowerEU goals.
