Leiria schools collect 29 tonnes of electronic waste for recycling

Schools in the Leiria district collected over 29 tonnes of batteries, lamps and electrical equipment during the 2025/2026 edition of the "Escola Eletrão" campaign, earning 4,500 euros in prizes. Escola Básica José Saraiva led in electrical equipment, Escola Básica n.º 2 de Avelar in lamps, and Escola Básica n.º 2 de Marrazes in batteries, the latter receiving the highest overall reward of 975 euros. Nationally, Escola Secundária Manuel de Arriaga in the Azores won top prize, as participating schools across Portugal surpassed 515 tonnes of recycled waste for the first time, a 12% increase on the previous year.
