Portuguese schools recycle record 515 tonnes of e-waste

The 2025-2026 edition of the "Escola Electrão" recycling campaign saw 720 Portuguese schools, including those in the Azores and Madeira, collect over 515 tonnes of batteries, electrical equipment and lamps for recycling, a 12% rise on the previous year. Battery collection grew 36% to 24 tonnes. The campaign also expanded environmental education, running 30 awareness sessions and recycling plant visits. Prize vouchers reached a record 57,975 euros, with the Escola Secundária Manuel de Arriaga in the Azores taking top place after collecting over 35 tonnes of equipment with council support.
