Portugal's solar power output hits new peak in August

Solar power generation in Portugal reached a new peak of around 3,850 MW in August, driven by growing installed capacity, according to grid operator REN. Electricity consumption rose 1.2% year-on-year, while electricity imports also hit a record above 5,200 MW after the reinforcement of the interconnection with Spain. Wind and solar productivity indices were below historical averages, though hydro inflows were above average. Renewables covered 52% of national electricity consumption in August and 66% over the first eight months of the year, while natural gas consumption fell 11.9% in August.
