Repsol Foundation and Sylvestris register second carbon forest in Monchique

The Repsol Foundation and Grupo Sylvestris have registered a new afforestation and carbon sequestration project at Barranco de Madriros, in Monchique, on Portugal's Voluntary Carbon Market platform. Covering 13.28 hectares, it aims to remove around 1,911 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 40 years, using species such as maritime pine and strawberry tree. It is the partnership's second such project, following one in Sabugal five months earlier, and forms part of Portugal's new legal framework for voluntary carbon markets. Beyond carbon capture, the project aims to reduce erosion and wildfire risk in a vulnerable area.
