UTAD and partners sign accord to boost native tree seed supply for forest restoration
The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro signed a collaboration protocol on 15 October with the nature and forests institute ICNF, Casa Comum da Humanidade and grid operator REN, under the project "Hectares de Biosfera – Nossas Sementes, Nossas Árvores". VINCI Energies Portugal is expected to join later. The agreement aims to increase both the quantity and the variety of seeds available for producing native trees and shrubs, through collection, propagation and scientific monitoring of forest species relevant to Portugal. It supports forest ecosystem restoration under the National Nature Restoration Plan and includes training in forest seeds for communities nationwide.
