ZERO demands strict environmental scrutiny of new airport plans

Environmental association ZERO says the planned Luís de Camões airport and the expansion of Lisbon's Humberto Delgado airport must undergo rigorous, transparent and participatory environmental assessments fully complying with national and EU law. It voices strong doubts that the Humberto Delgado expansion can meet noise regulations given already high exposure levels, calling it potentially legally impossible on public health grounds. It also demands the new airport's impact study compare the chosen site with the Vendas Novas alternative and the 'zero option', and opposes adding a road component to the Third Tagus Crossing, insisting it should be rail-only.
