AREANATejo

AREANATejo is the regional energy and environment agency of the North Alentejo and Tejo, based in Portalegre. It supports 15 municipalities with energy efficiency, renewables, hydrogen and climate adaptation.
AREANATejo (Agência Regional de Energia e Ambiente do Norte Alentejano e Tejo) is a non-profit regional agency based in Portalegre. Its associates are 15 municipalities of the Alto Alentejo, the intermunicipal community CIMAA, the distribution company E-Redes and the business association NERPOR.
The agency's work covers energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, environmental education and training. Its Balcão Espaço Energia do Alto Alentejo is a local energy advice desk. Together with the Centro de Formação para a Transição Energética, it ran about 27 hours of free, certified training in energy literacy. More than 100 people took part in sessions held in Alter do Chão, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Elvas, Gavião, Ponte de Sor, Portalegre and Sousel. Topics included household consumption, reading energy bills and available support.
AREANATejo also takes part in European projects. In SHAREDH2 it built a mini-laboratory for hydrogen technologies with the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre and ran a demonstration with a hydrogen bicycle. It installed monitoring equipment on municipal photovoltaic systems in all 15 municipalities, feeding the IEMSy platform. RECinMED is being implemented in Gavião, and ReMED applies climate-risk assessment tools in Campo Maior. THESILO explores turning abandoned grain silos into thermal energy storage, and AIRES looks at photovoltaic production and storage for self-consumption. ENTRACK is in its final stage.
The agency also helped six municipalities apply to the Alentejo 2030 call for energy efficiency in local administration, for a combined investment of over €3.9 million. It publishes a quarterly newsletter and a tool to prioritise energy efficiency measures in public buildings.
Our Goal
AREANATejo works to speed up the energy transition in the North Alentejo and Tejo region through energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable mobility and public awareness.
Our Wishes
The agency is recruiting a new professional for its team and is looking for partners for European energy and climate projects.
