Bem da Terra is a sustainability education space in Portugal offering permaculture design, sensory walks, a food forest and workshops that reconnect people with nature.

Bem da Terra is a sustainability education project inspired by natural systems, dedicated to fostering the integral development of human beings while reconnecting them with the Earth. Rooted in the principles of permaculture — as developed by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren — the project designs and transforms spaces such as gardens and food forests into resilient, edible and sensory ecosystems that mirror the patterns of nature. At its home base, Bem da Terra maintains a 450 m² food forest cultivated according to Masanobu Fukuoka's natural farming principles of 'no action', allowing ecological succession and soil regeneration to unfold with minimal human intervention. The space also includes a dome for stays and group activities, functioning as an outdoor classroom for what the project calls 'Saber Sentir' (knowing through feeling). Through its educational branch, the project runs courses (such as Introduction to Permaculture and Natural Agriculture), workshops (Natural Cosmetics, Ecological Detergents, Soil Building), talks and work camps that equip participants with practical tools for sustainable living. Complementing this, Bem da Terra offers Sensory Walks through forests, woods and rivers across different seasons and times of day, combining movement in nature with artistic and sensory exercises — activities designed to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, including families. Guided by the philosophy that feeling nature is the first step to protecting it, Bem da Terra blends ecoliteracy, permaculture design consultancy and experiential education to help individuals, schools and communities live in greater harmony with the natural world.

Our Goal

Bem da Terra aims to cultivate integral human development inspired by natural systems, reconnecting people with the Earth through permaculture design, sustainability education and sensory experiences in nature.

Our Wishes

The project welcomes participants for its courses, workshops and sensory walks, and invites people interested in permaculture, ecoliteracy and nature-based learning to get involved.
