Oriolus Ecotours

Oriolus Ecotours is a Porto-based ecotourism company offering guided birdwatching, wildlife and nature photography tours across the Douro and Trás-os-Montes regions of northern Portugal. Founded in 2006, it specialises in small private groups exploring the area's natural and cultural heritage.
Oriolus Ambiente e Ecoturismo Lda was established in 2006 to promote and give legal coverage to environmental studies and ecotourism activities in north-eastern Trás-os-Montes, Portugal. Based in Porto, the company organises private tours lasting from one to seven days for small groups of up to four people, focusing on nature and heritage tourism.
The tours include birdwatching, wildlife observation, nature photography and walks through landscapes such as the Douro Internacional Natural Park, the Côa Valley with its rupestrian engravings, and the Paço de Giela area along the River Vez. Signature itineraries include the Arcos Tour, Côa Tour, Douro Tour and the flagship Oriolus Tour, each combining nature walks, gastronomy, wine and cultural heritage. Guests are hosted using specialised hides for wildlife photography, and the tours highlight the region's biodiversity and traditions, including collaboration with local producers such as the Casa da Ti Cura donkey sanctuary and rural tourism unit.
Operating with bases in Porto and Atenor, the team is made up of professionals from varied backgrounds — musicians, biotechnological engineers and environmental educators — who share a passion for nature, travel and Portuguese cultural heritage. The company positions itself as a specialist in responsible, small-scale nature tourism, avoiding mass tourism impacts while showcasing the ecological and cultural richness of northern Portugal's less-visited regions.
Our Goal
Oriolus Ecotours aims to reveal the rich natural and cultural heritage of north-eastern Trás-os-Montes and the Douro region through birdwatching, wildlife observation and nature photography tours.
Our Wishes
The project welcomes travellers seeking small-group, private nature and heritage tours, and collaborations with partners in sustainable tourism and local hospitality.
