Cânhamor

Cânhamor is a pioneering Portuguese company founded in 2021, specialising in the production of hemp-based construction blocks under the brand ECOblocos®. Headquartered at Recinto da Feira in Garvão, Ourique (Beja), and with an existing production unit in Colos, Odemira, Cânhamor is rapidly scaling up with what is set to become the world's largest hemp block manufacturing facility in Ourique. The ECOblocos® are the only certified, carbon-negative complete wall system available in the Iberian Peninsula. Made entirely from industrial hemp grown in Portugal, these blocks offer outstanding thermal insulation, acoustic performance, and breathability, while actively sequestering carbon throughout their lifecycle. Their unique properties make sustainable building genuinely easy and accessible, challenging the widespread notion that eco-construction must be costly or complex. Since its founding, Cânhamor has supported the construction of over 123 homes across Portugal — 30 of them in the Alentejo region — as well as two properties in Spain. The company collaborates with local farmers to cultivate hemp, embedding its supply chain within the rural economy of the Baixo Alentejo. Cânhamor has been recognised with multiple innovation awards, including prizes in the Construction, Materials, and Agriculture categories from prestigious national bodies such as Tektonica, Consulai, and the Expresso/SIC Notícias Real Estate Awards. In 2024, it also received the National Agriculture Prize for Innovation in New Projects. With a €15 million investment in its new industrial unit and a growing portfolio of certified technical documentation — including carbon footprint assessments, energy efficiency guides, and BIM files — Cânhamor is positioning itself as a leader in the decarbonisation of the construction sector across Portugal and beyond.
