Project Kamp

Project Kamp began with a simple move: buying land in Treixedo, near Santa Comba Dão, to try something else. Instead of theorising, the team set out to test, in practice, what building materials work, how to store energy and what to grow and eat on the land. The project is organised as a community. Volunteers from several countries live and work together on site, sharing resources and testing ideas in real conditions rather than on paper. Each season brings a new setup, documented as it happens rather than after the fact. What sets Project Kamp apart is its open approach to research. Nothing is kept for internal use only. Every finding, from construction techniques to daily routines, is filmed and published, so people anywhere can copy what works and skip what doesn't. The stated aim is a blueprint, not a finished product. The whole process is documented on video, season by season, rather than summarised in a report. Five years in, per Portuguese broadcaster RTP, the community continues to host international volunteers and remains active in Santa Comba Dão. Project Kamp operates under One Army, and the team is upfront about the uncertainty: they don't know exactly how it will turn out, but they're sharing the attempt as it unfolds.
