Energy-saving measures could yield €8.5 billion a year in benefits for Portugal by 2030
A study by the Plan4Climate coalition and CAN Europe, which includes ZERO, estimates that energy-saving measures could deliver €8.5 billion a year in monetised co-benefits for Portugal by 2030, about 2.45% of 2025 GDP. By 2050 the figure could reach €28.6 billion a year. Lower energy bills could save each person around €280 in 2030 and €1,069 in 2050. The measures could also prevent 678 premature deaths a year by 2030, rising to 1,031 by 2050, and avoid some 66,000 sick days. The authors urge the government to strengthen the new state budget with funded, quantified targets for transport, industry and buildings.
