Galp and ISA test first vineyard agrivoltaic project in Portugal

Galp and the Instituto Superior de Agronomia have run Portugal's first agrivoltaic pilot project in a vineyard, at Tapada da Ajuda in Lisbon, covering vines with solar panels to test climate adaptation in viticulture. The project found the panels can reduce plant exposure to radiation and significantly cut water evaporation, potentially easing irrigation needs. It also produced the country's first wine harvest grown under these conditions, called 'Luz da Tapada', from the 2025 harvest. Results and a blind tasting will be presented on 24 September at ISA. Galp is now extending the technology to apple orchards and blueberry plantations in western and northern Portugal.
