LIPOR unveils three new tech tools for waste management

Topicswaste preventionwaste management infrastructure

LIPOR, the waste management body for Porto-area municipalities, has developed three technologies under the PRR-funded CircularTech Consortium: an RFID wristband for monitoring operations, built with NEVOA Technologies; the ReCompensa app, which gamifies sustainable citizen choices with rewards such as courses and workshops; and a Conditioned Access system using electronically locked bins reserved for residents. The access system has already started in Vila do Conde, Valongo, Gondomar and Póvoa de Varzim, covering 527 households. LIPOR says the tools aim to improve monitoring, encourage sustainable behaviour and make waste collection smarter.
