Madeira water and waste chief tells young PSD members about 60% water losses
The youth wing of the PSD in Câmara de Lobos held a debate on water and waste management in Madeira, with Amílcar Gonçalves, chairman of the regional company ARM, as guest speaker. He explained that ARM now runs services across the whole region, a task once left to each municipality, and that its teams cover about a thousand kilometres a day collecting waste, now including Saturdays. He warned that higher fuel prices strain a business funded by tariffs, called for more collective responsibility on waste disposal and stream pollution, and noted that the irrigation network stretches almost 3,000 kilometres.
