Porto de Mós rejects national renewable energy zoning plan

The municipality of Porto de Mós has issued a negative opinion on Portugal's draft Programme for Renewable Energy Acceleration Zones (PSZAER), citing technical, methodological and legal shortcomings. It backs a similar critical opinion already given by the Leiria region's intermunicipal community. Concerns include poor coordination with local planning tools, limited municipal input in defining zones, no assessment of cumulative impacts, and risks to the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park and its karst aquifers. The council says it supports the energy transition but wants renewable projects prioritised on artificial land, rooftops and disused quarries instead.
