Quercus opposes biomethane plant planned for Alenquer

Environmental association Quercus has issued a negative opinion on a biomethane production unit proposed by Gás da Terra in Abrigada, Alenquer, backing local opposition from residents and the municipality. The public consultation closed on 15 September. Quercus cites significant environmental weaknesses, including threats to water resources, soil contamination risks from the digestate by-product, odours, emissions and increased heavy traffic. It calls for the project to be redesigned to avoid affecting watercourses and to include monitoring plans before any approval. Quercus notes this is the second biomethane project by the same developer to face public and municipal opposition in under three months, after one in Torres Novas.
