Renova invests €11 million to cut factory carbon emissions

Renova has opened the Descarbonizar@Renova project at its Factory 2 in Torres Novas, an €11 million investment aimed at cutting the environmental impact of tissue paper production. The centrepiece is a new biomass plant replacing natural gas as the source of thermal energy, expected to more than halve scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions compared with 2020 levels. The project, backed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, forms part of a wider €152 million investment cycle by Renova in the region covering production capacity, energy efficiency, digitalisation and product innovation. The opening was attended by Secretary of State for Energy Jean Barroca.
