ZERO lists 73 pollution-free beaches across 34 Portuguese municipalities

The environmental association ZERO has identified 73 "Zero Pollution" beaches in Portugal for 2026, based on Environment Agency data showing no microbiological contamination detected over the last three bathing seasons, all rated "excellent". This is eight fewer than the 81 named in 2025, mirroring a similar drop in Blue Flag beaches. Grândola and Porto Santo lead with the most qualifying beaches. Two inland reservoirs, in Moimenta da Beira and Sabugal, made the list, while ten municipalities, including Sintra, Sines and Nazaré, dropped off it entirely.
