Jan Anema

Jan Anema, together with his wife Elisabeth, moved from the Netherlands to Portugal in 1987 to pursue a social farming project. The couple settled in Lavre, Montemor-o-Novo, Alentejo, initially running a dairy farm before returning, in 2010, to their original trade of organic cheesemaking. At Quinta Anema, Jan produces organic Gouda-style cheese from the milk of Blaarkop cattle, using traditional equipment and sustainable practices. He also founded Escola Viva, a social outreach programme for young people.
