Aqua eXperience

Aqua eXperience (AX) is a national education, awareness and action project focused on water efficiency and the water-energy nexus in Portugal. It is developed by ADENE – Agência para a Energia in consortium with EPAL – Empresa Portuguesa de Águas Livres, and is co-funded by the Portuguese Environmental Fund (Fundo Ambiental). The project brings water efficiency into schools through hands-on workshops for students and teachers, following pilot actions carried out in 2017. Beyond the classroom, Aqua eXperience has launched the Aqua Community, an online network connecting organisations, companies and individuals around water-saving practices, innovative technologies and shared challenges, with the aim of turning water conservation into a daily routine. The initiative also produces free educational resources, including a practical eBook guide to water efficiency in buildings and infographics explaining the value of water and the water-energy nexus. An interactive online game challenges users to discover their own "Aqua IQ" while learning about efficient water use. A digital bootcamp has additionally been run to generate business ideas, products and services addressing water efficiency, encouraging entrepreneurship around more sustainable models of water use and consumption. Through this combination of education, community-building, digital tools and entrepreneurship support, Aqua eXperience seeks to decode the importance of water and energy savings for households, schools and businesses across Portugal, positioning water efficiency as an accessible and shared responsibility.
