Biggest Mini Forest is a Portuguese movement that has helped plant over 85 mini food forests across Portugal, Spain, and Ecuador since 2023, using a unique 3x3 metre modular approach combining the Miyawaki method, syntropic agriculture, and permaculture. The project offers workshops, consulting, and implementation services to make regenerative food forestry accessible to everyone.

Biggest Mini Forest is a regenerative land movement founded in 2020 by Luís Afonso and Ana Laura Cruz, with its base in the Algarve, Portugal. What began as a small household experiment — planting a miniature jungle in a bathtub — has grown into a far-reaching initiative that has facilitated the creation of over 85 mini food forests across 24 locations in Portugal, Spain, and Ecuador, involving more than 7,225 plants, bushes, and trees from 120 different species. The project's core concept is the 'Mini Food Forest block' — a modular 3x3 metre unit that anyone can start, regardless of the size of their land. This block grows up to 10 times faster than conventional tree-planting methods, without the use of chemicals, and over time functions as a private teacher, plant nursery, food source, medicinal garden, soil fertiliser, and community connector. The method draws on agroforestry, syntropic agriculture, and the Miyawaki forest technique to create dense, fast-growing, biodiverse ecosystems. Biggest Mini Forest offers three main services: workshops and courses (both onsite and online), expert consulting available worldwide, and full implementation services for organisations, schools, farms, and public spaces. The project also supports corporate volunteering and community team-building activities. The team combines expertise in engineering, agroforestry, sustainability communication, online marketing, biology, gardening and propagation, and carpentry. A network of advisors with backgrounds in impact investment, systemic design, and data analytics supports the project's strategic development. Since its public launch in May 2023, Biggest Mini Forest has grown into a genuine grassroots movement, with the goal of building the largest regenerative food forest network — one mini forest at a time.

Our Goal

Biggest Mini Forest aims to empower people, communities, and organisations to create biodiverse mini food forests using a simple, replicable method rooted in agroforestry, syntropic agriculture, and the Miyawaki method.

Our Wishes

The project seeks partnerships with organisations, companies, public entities, and individuals who want to participate in corporate volunteering, team building, or create their own mini food forest.
