Broto de Bambu is a specialized bamboo nursery and education centre located within Bambuparque at Herdade da Fonte in the Alentejo region of Portugal, recognized as Europe's largest bamboo producer with over 100 commercial species. It combines plant production, eco-product sales, workshops, and nature-based wellbeing retreats.

Broto de Bambu operates within Bambuparque at Herdade da Fonte in São Teotónio, Alentejo, and has been producing bamboo plants since 1990. It has grown to become Europe's largest bamboo producer, cultivating over 100 different species commercially and maintaining a collection of 260 species and varieties. Its production is split between temperate-climate bamboos (60%) and tropical varieties (40%), serving both local and international markets. Founded by Julio Cesar Nascimento in 1998 as Broto de Bambu, the project has built decades of experience in internationally recognised bamboo projects and workshops. Beyond plant propagation, the nursery pioneers the introduction of natural bamboo-derived products in Portugal, drawing on techniques practised for generations in Asian countries to create 100% natural products with documented wellbeing benefits. The project organises regular workshops covering bamboo planting techniques, agricultural applications, and construction methods, making it a key learning hub for anyone seeking to integrate bamboo into sustainable land use. Retreats are also offered, featuring meditation and guided walks through the bamboo groves, allowing visitors to experience the health and wellbeing benefits of this extraordinary plant firsthand. Bamboo's rapid growth, low water consumption, permanent foliage, carbon sequestration capacity, and suitability for erosion control and low-carbon construction make it a cornerstone resource for sustainable development. Broto de Bambu bridges ecological awareness with practical solutions, supplying farmers, builders, landscapers, and permaculture designers throughout Portugal and beyond with the plants, knowledge, and tools needed to integrate bamboo into a more sustainable future.
