Viveiro Campesino is a small family-run nursery near Marvão, Portugal, producing reforestation, fruit and medicinal plants using regenerative agriculture techniques such as syntropic farming and Miyawaki forests.

Viveiro Campesino is a small family nursery run by Fabien and Stéphanie, a Belgian couple who settled four years ago in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, at the foot of Marvão. Combining backgrounds in agronomy and organic vegetable growing, they now dedicate their 3-hectare property to multiplying trees, shrubs and plants that regenerate soils, water cycles and communities. Their production focuses on reforestation and regeneration species, including native and adapted non-native trees, fruit trees, and aromatic and medicinal plants. The land itself has become an experimental site where they test regenerative agroforestry, syntropic agriculture and Miyawaki tiny-forest techniques, learning how species adapt to the region's demanding conditions — poor, sandy, well-draining soils, winter flooding risk, and temperatures ranging from -4°C to 43°C. To ensure strong root development, they use adapted pots, certified organic substrate mixed with local soil, and shade covers to limit evaporation and reduce water needs, while striving to minimize waste through pot recycling. Beyond selling plants, Viveiro Campesino offers services such as fruit tree pruning, irrigation installation, soil preparation, and the design and planting of Miyawaki tiny forests. The team also participates in community initiatives, attending the monthly Beirã market to deliver orders and connect with the local community. Their mission is to help others create resilient small-scale ecosystems on their own land, offering healthy, well-adapted trees alongside practical guidance — driven by the belief that, together, desertification can be halted and the land regenerated.

Our Goal

Viveiro Campesino aims to regenerate ecosystems, soils and water cycles by producing healthy, locally-adapted trees and plants for reforestation, agroforestry and Miyawaki tiny forests across Portugal.

Our Wishes

The project welcomes clients and communities interested in reforestation projects, bulk plant orders, and collaboration on regenerative land design.
