Ceiba Permacultura

Ceiba Permacultura is a permaculture education and design initiative active in the Vila Nova de Famalicão area of northern Portugal. Led by practitioners including Henrique Zamith and Carla Braga, the project has been involved in local sustainability efforts since at least 2013, delivering permaculture trainings and workshops in partnership with municipal educational services and community programs such as the Parque da Devesa gardens. The initiative appears frequently in regional sustainability networks, including collaborations connected to "Famalicão por um Mundo Melhor" and the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Ave (CIM do Ave), where it has been listed among local actors contributing to climate resilience and territorial adaptation strategies. Ceiba Permacultura has also contributed to academic and community discussions on gardens and gardening practices, reflecting an educational mission centered on ecological knowledge transfer. While a dedicated project website is not currently active, Ceiba Permacultura maintains a visible presence through educational partnerships, community events such as forest bathing immersions in the Devesa forest, and involvement in regional environmental initiatives combating invasive species and supporting river ecosystem health. Its work spans hands-on permaculture demonstration, teaching in community garden settings, and public engagement around ecological emergency and resilience. The project reflects a grassroots, education-first approach to permaculture, emphasizing accessible, free or low-cost training opportunities for the general public and collaboration with municipal and civic organizations in the Ave region of Portugal.
