Coop 99

Coop 99, Cooperativa Integral do Porto, is a multi-sector cooperative in Porto that gives independent workers and small producers a formal legal structure, business support, and a basket-delivery scheme for organic and agroecological food. It also organises trainings and hosts Portugal's Festival de Cooperativas Integrais.

Coop 99, formally Cooperativa Integral do Porto, is based at Rua Calouste Gulbenkian 117 in Porto and was founded in 2023. It exists so that people with a business idea, a craft, or a professional service can operate legally without setting up a company of their own. The cooperative offers accounting support, help with contracts, and guidance applying for funding. Membership works on several levels. A cooperadora efetiva runs a business through the cooperative's legal structure. A cooperadora prossumidora both sells and buys within the network. A cooperadora consumidora simply buys goods or services. All can vote in assemblies and stand for elected roles once they hold at least three capital shares, worth €15 each. The cooperative runs a weekly basket scheme (cabazes) with organic and agroecological vegetables, fruit, cereals, legumes, plant and animal protein, olives, spices, nuts and hygiene products, sold from its Porto shop on Saturday mornings. It also delivers training: a course on the history and practice of cooperativism, including Cooperativas Integrais and comércio justo, ran over three Monday evenings in October, priced on a sliding scale from €10 to €30. Coop 99 co-hosted the second Festival/Fórum de Cooperativas Integrais em Portugal at Quinta do Minhoto, alongside Raiz Minhota and Raiz Comum, bringing together around twenty active integral cooperatives from across the country for workshops, concerts, and discussion of legal, fiscal and organisational questions facing cooperatives. The event also included the documentary *Aldeias do Futuro* and a fundraising raffle, Triunfo de Gaia, for regenerative projects.

Our Goal

Coop 99 provides a legal cooperative structure so that individuals in Porto can formalise professional projects, products or businesses without setting up their own company. It aims to build a local, fair and cooperative economic alternative that increases people's incomes while supporting mutual aid, self-management and direct sale of ecologically conscious local products.

Our Wishes

The cooperative is looking for new members across its categories, cooperating entrepreneurs, consumers and service providers, and welcomes people interested in joining its cooperative sectors: services, consumption, culture, marketing, social solidarity, construction and housing, and agriculture.
