ESDIME – Agência para o Desenvolvimento Local no Alentejo Sudoeste

ESDIME – Agência para o Desenvolvimento Local no Alentejo Sudoeste is a cooperative organisation (CRL) based in Messejana, in the Baixo Alentejo region of Portugal. Originating from an experimental training project for the development of rural micro-regions in the late 1980s, ESDIME has grown into the managing entity of the ESDIME Territorial Partnership, coordinating local development strategies for the 2023-2027 period across the Southwest Alentejo. The agency works to strengthen rural communities through integrated programmes addressing economic, social and environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on community resilience, local entrepreneurship and social innovation in low-density rural areas. Its current initiatives include the DLBC Rural 2030 / PEPAC funding calls supporting small investments in the bioeconomy and circular economy, the 'Empoderar para Transformar' programme reinforcing the capacity of local actors and networks, and the Coopera project valorising wild and forest resources. ESDIME is also a partner in INCOMUN – INovação e COnhecimento no MUNdo Rural, working alongside entities such as CoimbraMaisFuturo to foster innovation and knowledge exchange in rural settings. As a cooperative entity, ESDIME regularly opens technical and coordination positions, such as recruitment for a technical coordinator for its CLDS 5G programme, reflecting its active role in employment generation and social intervention within the region. Its work connects public institutions, associations and rural stakeholders around common territorial development goals, making it an important reference for sustainable rural development in southern Portugal.
