Mosaic Village

Mosaic Village is a regenerative village and relational research centre near Odemira, Portugal, combining land stewardship, permaculture and participatory governance across 20 hectares of Alentejano hills.

Mosaic Village is a long-term co-living and land-stewardship initiative located in Vale Cortiças, in the Odemira region of Alentejo, Portugal. Positioned as a 'Regenerative Village & Relational Research Center', the project explores how an integrated, self-responsible human culture can be lived and governed at village scale, believing that the next step in human evolution will be relational rather than technological. The community sits on around 20 hectares of Alentejano hills, roughly seven minutes' drive from Odemira and thirty minutes from the coast. Mosaic is organised around a nested architecture combining participatory governance (experimenting with DAO structures), a land trust and a cooperative, currently in formation as the Mosaic Cooperative. People can engage with the project in three ways, distinguished by length of stay and depth of involvement: short 'Visiting' stays of one to six days for the curious, who share meals and walk the land; 'Co-Living' from one week, for people who keep their own work and income while helping care for the shared home and attending weekly gatherings; and 'Joining', a month-long immersion for those wanting to become co-creators, combining land responsibility with project contribution. On the ground, the community practises regenerative and syntropic agroforestry, permaculture-based soil building, swales and mulching, and natural building using clay harvested on site. Social life is structured through relational practices, weekly 'Captain Meetings' where domain-holders align on priorities, and shared rituals of presence and connection. Mosaic runs seasonal onboarding cohorts, such as its Summer Co-Living programme with onboarding dates through July, August and September, and it actively invites new members, volunteers and long-term collaborators to explore whether the project is the right fit for them.

Our Goal

Mosaic Village aims to build a long-term regenerative co-living and land-stewardship community in the Alentejo, exploring how an integrated, self-responsible human culture can be lived and governed at village scale.

Our Wishes

The project welcomes visitors, co-livers and co-creators who wish to contribute their time, skills and presence to the land and community, and it is currently forming its cooperative structure.
