Peneda Eco Farm
A certified organic family farm and ecotourism project near the Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal, offering B&B accommodation, healthy local meals, and nature and culture experiences. It grows chestnuts, fruit, vegetables, mushrooms and aromatic herbs, and follows the UNWTO guidelines for sustainable tourism.
Peneda Eco Farm (officially Quinta Ecológica da Peneda) is a certified organic family farm in Outeiro, Arcos de Valdevez, growing chestnuts, mushrooms, aromatic herbs, vegetables and a variety of fruit. It sits on the edge of the Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal. A couple who moved from Porto founded it in 2017, and since then they've steadily restored and developed the land, which had been degraded, using permaculture principles.
Guests stay on a B&B basis in several suites, among them the Earth Suite, Sky Suite, Forest Suite, Sun Suite, River Room and Mountain Room. Half-board and full-board meals are cooked from fresh, local, seasonal produce, including food grown on the farm itself. There are vegetarian and vegan options.
The farm also organises a programme of Culture & Nature experiences with local operators. These include river kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, guided cycling routes, canyoning and jeep tours of the national park. The activities are meant to boost nature tourism and to celebrate the cultural and natural heritage of the Minho and Galicia region.
Peneda Eco Farm follows the UNWTO guidelines for sustainable tourism and holds the Biosphere Responsible Tourism certification. The Portuguese Federation of the Saint James Ways has awarded it the Jacobean Hospitality Seal for the way it welcomes pilgrims.
