Quinta do Freixo & Quinta do Mel (SAIA)
SAIA is a fifth-generation family business running two organic farms in the Algarve, Quinta do Freixo inland and Quinta do Mel by the sea, producing traditional foods and hosting guests. Together the estates cover around 850 hectares certified for organic production.
Sociedade Agrícola e Industrial do Algarve (SAIA) is a family company now in its fifth generation. It runs two farms: Quinta do Freixo, inland in Benafim, and Quinta do Mel, by the coast. Together they cover about 850 hectares, all certified for organic production.
The farms grow aromatic herbs, cork and carob, keep sheep, and grow fruit and vegetables that get turned into jams and other traditional products. Quinta do Freixo sits at around 800 hectares in the hills, with streams, small lakes and shaded valleys that support varied wildlife. It's a working farm as much as a place to stay.
Both estates run agrotourism operations, offering accommodation, home-made products and, at Quinta do Mel, a restaurant, tea house and shop close to the beach. Guest reviews mention the quiet setting among olive and orange trees, spacious rooms and friendly staff.
SAIA sells its jams and other traditional goods online, with deliveries across mainland Portugal in two to three working days and to the islands and rest of Europe within a week or so. Orders are shipped through CTT, and payment can be made by Multibanco, PayPal, credit card or bank transfer.
