Terramadome is an unusual 7-hectare organic farm in Penamacor, Beira Baixa, in central Portugal. Julien and Sandrine founded it in 2018 and spent five years building it before opening to ecotourism and responsible tourism in 2023.
The accommodation is atypical and experimental in design. It's built with natural techniques, including earthbag and superadobe construction, and the buildings come in several architectural styles, which reflects the founders' commitment to low-impact living. Guests rent eco-friendly domes for short stays and have the run of the grounds. Terramadome is also a small working farm with animals.
Workshops cover natural construction, self-defence, soap making and self-sufficiency, with the focus on practical skills grounded in ecological values.
The farm is a base for exploring the area around it: the Naturtejo UNESCO Geopark, the medieval villages of Sortelha and Monsanto, the Serra da Estrela, the Serra da Malcata nature reserve and the river beaches of the region.
Our Goal
Terramadome wants to offer an alternative way of living and travelling, through eco-friendly, self-built accommodation and hands-on workshops, and to get people thinking about self-sufficiency, both individual and collective.
