Electric Vehicles

Portugal electrified fast on the road and slowly on the map: charging is dense along the coast and thin inland. PRIO runs fuel and charging infrastructure from Aveiro, and AREAM plans the island version in Madeira.

Electric vehicles in Portugal

Portugal has one of the cleaner electricity mixes in Europe, which is what makes an electric car here meaningfully different from an electric car somewhere burning coal. The gap is geographic: charging is denser along the coast and around Lisbon and Porto than in the interior.

PRIO operates fuel and charging infrastructure nationally from its base at the Port of Aveiro, alongside its biodiesel production. AREAM plans the energy transition for Madeira, where an island grid and a small road network change the arithmetic completely.

The greener answer on most journeys is still the train, or fewer journeys. If you work on charging or on shared electric fleets, we would like to list you. Related focuses: public transport advocacy and low-impact travel. Dated activities from these projects are listed in our events calendar.
