Portugal set to miss deadline for EU right-to-repair directive

With the 31 July deadline one day away, Portugal has yet to transpose EU Directive 2024/1799 on promoting the repair of goods, environmental group Quercus warns. The organisation links the delay to weak recycling and reuse rates for electrical waste, citing figures well below EU targets for items such as lamps and large equipment. Quercus urges the government to table a transposition proposal immediately, set up a national repair contact point and platform, enforce bans on anti-repair contract clauses, and introduce repair incentives. It also warns Portugal already pays penalties over the Habitats Directive and risks similar sanctions here.
