Sines green hydrogen and ammonia plants cleared to begin installation
Two renewable fuel projects worth about €3.3 billion have been cleared to start installation at the Sines industrial and logistics zone. The Alentejo regional development commission issued the digital installation permits on 7 October. One is a 500 MW green hydrogen plant, costing around €2.8 billion, for industry and the energy sector. The other is a €526 million green ammonia unit, fed by that hydrogen, able to make roughly 438,000 tonnes a year for export and for low-carbon shipping fuel. Both hold national-interest status. The commission says they could cut emissions, lessen energy dependence and draw regional investment.
